FINE ART–Drawing

Our Fine Art Drawing courses focus on the academic approach to drawing, as well as the mastering of the classical traditions and techniques of drawing  the human form. Through different mediums, Studio Mortimer encourages students to focus on the importance of proportional accuracy, good design, shadow and light, and the fine details that bring “itness” to their work.

Having a strong foundation is the key to becoming a skilled visual artist. Drawing is one of the most important foundations of designing, painting, and sculpting. Understanding shape, design elements, colors, contour, line weight, negative vs positive space, and depth are huge building blocks for the visual artist. An aspiring artist can learn these on their own, but it’s faster to learn them from a more experienced artist who is willing to teach. These things are the fundamentals of art, and are foundational to a successful career in the fine arts.

Students at Studio Mortimer have the benefit of not only drawing still life objects, rendering such to the highest finish,  but are exposed to life-size skeletons and skulls which aid them in developing thorough knowledge of human anatomy.
