Studio Mortimer is committed to making all courses affordable and available to the widest range of students regardless of background or circumstance. The Six Months Certificate Course awards two (2)  students a scholarship or fee reduction every year. 

Scholarships and fee reductions are means tested with personal circumstances and artistic merit taken into account. Applications for both scholarships and fee reductions form part of the course application process.

Places on the course are offered to students who have an affinity with drawing and the curiosity to explore the world around them through drawing from observation. Students will show an ongoing dedication to their art practice and a desire to improve their skills in industrious and creative environment. They will have a passion for the visual arts, an interest in new ways of learning and the ambition to pursue a career in the creative industries. 

Scholarships

Students awarded a full scholarship for the Ten Weeks Drawing Course pay no course fees and receive  all materials necessary for the duration of the course. All other costs will be borne by the student.

We accept scholarship applications from students who have attended any High School in Jamaica and would have done Visual Arts at the CXC Level. However, special consideration is given to students who have attended a High School, did not sit Visual Arts in the CXC Examinations but have been working at their art, is able to produce a portfolio of recent drawings and pass the required drawing examination. 

The process of applying remains the same for all students. Persons applying for a scholarship must apply online and state their request and reason for needing scholarship.

The 2019 application period is open from March 1 – July 1.

  1. Jamaican students who are graduating from a public or private  school or a home education programme during the current school year.
  2. Persons between the age 17-25 at the period of application.
  3. The Art Scholarship is awarded to students currently enrolled in art and design at CXC/CAPE  indicating Art or Design as their major or persons between the ages 17-25 years currently practicing art.
  1. Students must submit a completed application, a brief essay explaining “The benefits of pursuing a career in the visual arts” and a portfolio of no less than 10 pieces of recent works in drawing. painting, designing.
  2. Be successful at the Studio Mortimer drawing examination

A committee of judges comprised of respected experts, reviews and scores the students essays and work samples. Students with the top scores in each discipline are awarded a scholarship.

Scholarships will be awarded to winners in writing. Recipients are invited to  exhibit their artwork on the first day of the course for which he or she would have qualified.
