Looking At Art Through The Heart

Looking At Art Through The Heart

2018 is behind us, 2019 is now here with us and as we could have done nothing about the previous year, we had better be content with 2019.

While I wish for all my friends, students and patrons a wonderful and prosperous year, I hasten also to encourage us all to engage our hearts in making and connecting with art.

This means accepting the fact that art is your life and love. It means treating it with the same vigor and interest other career practitioners treat their vocation. It means draw when you don’t feel like it, paint even when you are tired and it is not working and coming together; it means connecting with like minded creative people and connecting with art buyers and appreciators.

I must confess that for years I have found some of those things hard to do, I have started and stopped many times along the way, I have oftentimes neglected to maintain my website, ignored selling, and because I am caught up with the teaching of drawing, I don’t accomplish myself as I should. So, my friends, take heart, while it is not a consolation, you are not alone.

I did this drawing in my sketchbook recently, it took about 1 hour. I am glad I attempted it because I have gained some valuable insight from engaging. I have reminded myself that thirty minutes spent each day drawing can yield immense results. I have since done several drawings of which I am proud to share with you.

Yes, I have bought two skulls and a lifesize skeleton from which I will practice and teach so that myself and my students can have a better understanding of human anatomy.

I have decided to put my whole heart into my art. My success as an artist depends on it. So too does yours.

Make 2019 a year of heartful art.

To your artful success,

Mortimer McPherson
